Sofia Urban Challenge – Phase 2: The first system for shared electric bicycle use in Sofia! The initiative is organized by Cleantech Bulgaria and Green Sofia under a project funded by Climate-KIC and includes a wide range of partners.
The solution and the implementation of the system is conducted by the startup company ElJoy Bikes, which is also part of the Cleantech Bulgaria and Climate-KIC Accelerator Program.
The oldest natural park in the Balkans – Vitosha Park is the first location where everyone can take advantage of the new service. The first bicycle stand with 10 bikes is positioned in the parking lot of the National Historic Museum as the starting point from where everyone can rent their own bicycle.
The aim of the project is to stimulate a shift in the attitudes of Bulgarians towards the transition to ecological and healthy methods of transportation, reducing the car traffic towards Vitosha, as well as testing the needs and attitudes of the users towards the system itself.
The project is a pilot project aimed at understanding and testing the attitudes and needs of people, as well as the opportunities for developing the system itself. The vision of the partners responsible for Sofia Urban Challenge is growth both in Sofia and other cities, with the opportunity to build a bicycle connection between them.
