The Winners of the 2016 Start-Up Universiade have been announced!
On the 05.12.2016 the final of the entrepreneurial competition with focus on green creative ideas Start-Up Universiade 2016 was held. It brought together students from 4 leading Bulgarian Universities: TU Sofia, SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, UACEG and UNWE. Host of the initiative was Cleantech Bulgaria Foundation, and the competition took place in Sofia Tech Park.
The final was conducted in two rounds.In the first round, five pairs contested against each other in a battle with direct eliminations. Each team had five minutes, to present their ideas and three minutes to answer judge’s questions.
SU “St.Kliment Ohridski” presented the largest number of contenders.The famous radio host Atanas Stoyanov, better known as Nasko from BG Radio, was leading the event.
The judges had the difficult task to select three winners and after a brief conference the3rd place was awarded to the team “DIVA” from SU with a team of Alexandra Nissimova, Joe Velchev, Ilian Banev and Veronika Koleva. Their idea was to utilize food waste from juice production (the pulp) and implement it in a healthy and affordable bio desert. The young entrepreneurs received as a reward an access to develop their business idea within the shared workspace of Cleantech Bulgaria in Sofia Tech Park as well as additional material rewards. They also won mentorship from Roo'bar and were given the “audience award” for the best team in the competition.
The second place was awarded to Magdalena Vlahova, Alexandra Hodgeva, Martin Sinapov and Jordan Velev from "FoodSalvage" from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".Their idea is to create a web-based platform that brings together consumers and manufacturers and retailers of food products which are nearing their expiration date. This platform gives solution to the global problem with huge amounts of unnecessarily wastedfood and waste of production resources. They also gained access to a shared workspace in Cleantech Bulgaria in Sofia Tech Park where they can develop their business idea and additional material rewards.
The big winner of the competition was Nora Dinovafrom Sofia University with her “BioControlGas” concept. Her idea is to createan indicator system for control of the nanotechnologies involved in the production of biogas so waste production materials could be utilised.The system could be simplified and made into a smartphone app or internet platform. Nora received the big prize which is the participation in the Business Models for Climate Change Technologies and Innovation master class which is worth €1500 and is organised by Climate-KIC in Valencia, Spain in December 2016. Furthermore, she would have the opportunity to apply with a priority for the Accelerator programme of Climate-KIC Bulgaria in 2017 with financial support of €10 000.
In addition, Sofia University, the university where the three winning teams are enrolled, and Cleantech Bulgaria have committed to create a pre-accelerator programme in 2017
The finalists were awarded by the President of the Foundation - Mariana Hamanova. For the good mood of the guests took care bulgarian RnB artist VenZy. There was a lot of dancing, music and good mood.Cleantech Bulgaria promised to organize the event again and this to become an annual tradition. They will continue to seek and support the enterprising young people
We are pleased to announce that the enrollment for the first Start-UP Universiade - entrepreneurial competition for young people with green creative ideas has finished!
This unique event is aimed at students with entrepreneurial ideas from prestigious universities in Bulgaria for 2016.The students will present their innovative ideas and solutions to tackle climate change.
This year the competing universities are TU, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ", UNWE and UAGES . The ten best projects will face each other in the final verbal sparring, live in front of an expert jury.
The competing areas are:
- Urban Transitions - smart and sustainable cities
- Sustainable Production Systems - Process Optimization to "green" production
- Sustainable Land Use - The environment is not a given: How to protect soil, water and air, so we can enjoy them longer
Participants will compete to win attractive prizes. For the guests there is also plenty of entertainment provided! The Bulgarian RnB artist VenZy will be responsible for the cheerful mood. There will be lots of dancing, music and fun!
The final is with open doors and will be heldon 12.05.2016, from 15:30 in the office of Cleantech Bulgaria on Tsarigradsko Shose, 111 B, Sofia Tech Park, building "Business Incubator", Ground floor.

Cleantech Bulgaria launches Start-UP Universiade – a unique competition for students from prestigious universities in Bulgaria with entrepreneurial ideas and solutions aiming at tackling climate change.
All participants will have the opportunity to compete with their peers from other universities and share their motivation, knowledge and skills. All they have to do is record a 3-minute video presentation of them, their team and the business idea they have and send it to us. Cleantech Bulgaria will select the top 3 videos which will then compete in front of a live audience and an expert jury.
